Affirmations are a simple way to boost self-awareness and EQ
Recognizing and verbalizing your child’s strengths is an easy way to help them build self-awareness. Sometimes we forget to pause and notice their positive choices which is why we created our Affirmations sheet to make it easy to tell kids what they are doing well.
By tucking these notes into your kids school lunch or leaving them around the house to find, we can show children that we’re paying attention and positive behaviors result in positive attention. When parents or caregivers highlight these qualities it teaches the child to appreciate these traits in themselves and others.
Here’s some advice:
Be specific!
Avoid always and never statements.
Tell children how their actions made you FEEL.
Be inquisitive and ask them how it makes THEM feel too.
Focus on their efforts and character (for example, creativity, perseverance, responsibility, autonomy) vs. a skill or outcome.
