Parenting EQ Child Showing Emotional Intelligence

What is ParentingEQ?

At ParentingEQ our mission is to equip parents, educators, counselors and anyone working with kids, with tools to help children and families grow emotionally strong and healthy. By viewing challenging behaviors through the lens of lacking skills, we can take them less personally, focus on what to teach, and give kids the strategies they need to thrive. We share what has worked for us and for thousands of children we’ve supported, including our own.

Skills That Help Kids Thrive!

You might call it life skills, soft skills, character education, social-emotional learning (SEL) or developing emotional intelligence (EQ). Whatever the name, it’s all about helping kids (and adults!) develop the skills to:

  • Communicate more effectively

  • Identify and understand their own feelings

  • Understand other people’s perspectives

  • Manage stress and anxiety in healthy ways

  • Make responsible decisions

  • Solve problems

  • Stay calm

  • Get along with others

  • Bounce back from challenges

  • Focus better

These are the skills that make us kinder, more resilient, and better equipped to handle whatever life throws our way.

We all have areas where we can grow, nobody is good at everything, all the time. The good news? These skills can be learned at any age. It starts with recognizing their value, then finding ways to learn and practice them—over and over—until they become part of how we live. This is a journey, not a quick fix.

So, take a deep breath, dive in, and get ready to connect more deeply with your kids and yourself. We’ll show you how to weave these skills into your everyday life, not as “one more thing to do,” but as small changes that make a big difference in your home’s culture and atmosphere. With a little focus, reinforcement, and reflection, you’ll see how these skills can improve behavior, boost academic success, and create a more positive, connected home environment.

Testimonials

“The kinder kit is such a wonderful way to get ready for kindergarten. My daughter loved it and we went through all its contents. Some of the tricks, like figure 8 breathing, she still references at home.”

- Kerry, Parent

“I’ve seen such a positive change in her behavior, and she’s able to manage her emotions better since using these tools."

- Robin, Parent

“I think the Kinder Readiness Kit is really helpful in transitioning to Kinder. Our son slept with the caterpillar in his bed the first few nights. He also put the keychain on his backpack.”

- Andrew, Parent

“The Friendship Crew Mini Board Game is one of my favorites. Kids love playing it, and it’s been a great way to help them build new friendships, especially when they try to beat Flame and get to work together as a team."

- Peter, School Counselor

Partner with ParentingEQ

At ParentingEQ, we believe collaboration creates the biggest impact for kids. We partner with community organizations, school districts, and nonprofits to bring our life skills bundles and small group curriculums to counselors, school psychologists, speech pathologists, and anyone working with kids and families.

We’ve teamed up with Rotary Clubs to deliver resources to local schools, partnered with Vista Hill to support their programs, and worked alongside counselors & special education staff in Poway Unified, Carlsbad Unified, and Solana Beach School Districts. We’re also proud to be a San Diego Live Well Partner, expanding our reach and impact across the county.

If you share our mission of equipping kids with the emotional and social tools to thrive, let’s work together.

- TK and Kinder students love the Backpack Cube for teaching empathy in a fun, memorable way. We did it as a whole class.

- Middle schoolers enjoy Mind Power Tower because the Jenga-style play sparks meaningful conversations.

- In a Jam helps students reflect on how their reactions impact situations.

School Counselors & Psychologists report noticeable improvements in students’ friendship skills and peer relationships after using ParentingEQ bundles and curriculum.
